The monitoring program "Systematic research of water quality in transitional and coastal waters" is a WFD-based program, performed in transitional and coastal water bodies in Croatia. The main purpose of this program is to establish the ecological status of water bodies taking into account the status of:
In heavily modified water bodies the ecological potential is assessed. Obtained results are used as a basis for the River Basin Management Plans (including the Programme of measures).
The program, financed by Croatian Waters, Republic of Croatia, involves 25 transitional water bodies and 26 coastal water bodies.

The monitoring programme started in 2009. Since 2012 it is performed in 2-year cycles.
